Seroprevalence studies

Project conducted in partnership with the Institut Pasteur and the joint IRD UVE 190 research unit (emergent viruses unit) of which EFS and Marseilles University form part.

COVID-19 Flash call project funded by the National Research Agency (Agence nationale de la recherche - ANR).

•    The aim?
To estimate the seroprevalence (proportion of the population who have been in contact with the virus) in blood donors aged between 18 and 70 years in France.

•    The principle?

To analyse the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic in France by researching the presence of antibodies in a representative sample of blood donors distributed throughout the country, over a given period. This modelling of the progression of the epidemic may enable us to establish collective immunity.

The analyses will be carried out on samples taken in a random manner in EFS laboratories; individual results will not be communicated to donors. The results are for research purposes and not diagnostic purposes. However the global research results will be made available to donors via the EFS website when the study has finished and the results are published.

  • Status of the project: ongoing.
